To achieve universal health coverage and the future we want by 2030, leaders will gather in Kazakhstan from 25-26 October to renew their commitment to strong primary health care in every country.

This conversation is too important to be contained to one meeting. Use this toolkit to call for health systems that finally put people first.

Share what primary health care means to you

As a community’s first & main contact with the health system, #PrimaryHealthCare must deliver health services people say they need, rather than services someone else decides they should have. Add your voice: www.PHCtoolkit.org #HealthForAll

ADDRESS DIVERSE HEALTH NEEDS

Ensuring strong #PrimaryHealthCare in every community is crucial for addressing today’s biggest global health challenges, from rising inequality & risk of pandemics, to threats accelerated by climate change. Let’s work together for #HealthForAll.

When disease or disaster strike, our health systems must be ready. Often, this isn’t the case. Strong #PrimaryHealthCare can help prevent, detect & respond to health threats, saving lives and livelihoods along the way. www.PHCtoolkit.org #HealthForAll

In 2018, no one should die from a preventable infectious disease. By ensuring #PrimaryHealthCare delivers life-saving vaccines & quality medicines to all, we can make these diseases history. Now is the time to demand #HealthForAll, everywhere.

With consistent, quality care, many NCDs are preventable, manageable or treatable. Too often, weak #PrimaryHealthCare systems are not equipped to keep people healthy across their lifetime. A successful #HealthForAll agenda includes creating plans to #BeatNCDs in every country.

1 in 4 of us will suffer from a mental illness at some point in our life. Far fewer will seek or find treatment. Strong #PrimaryHealthCare helps fight stigma & myths around #MentalHealth at the community-level, while bringing quality, affordable care within everyone’s reach.

In a world where conflict and displacement are on the rise, it is unacceptable that anyone fleeing war or disaster could be denied the health care they need. Refugees, migrants & internally displaced persons must be protected & prioritized. #HealthForAll. www.PHCtoolkit.org

When a child gets sick, no parent should have to worry about whether they can access or afford quality care. Strong #PrimaryHealthCare helps protect children everywhere from disease & ill health—but only if countries ⬆️ investments & action for #HealthForAll.

Getting information or health care should not cost anyone their savings, safety or dignity. Strong #PrimaryHealthCare ensures everyone can access a range of #SRHR services in their community, from modern contraception to routine blood tests to maternal health services.

LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND

FACTS: girls & women:

  • Bear the greatest burden in almost every disease & disaster

  • Represent the majority of educators, health workers & caretakers worldwide

  • Have the right to strong, affordable #PrimaryHealthCare that puts their needs & experiences first.

Every country, rich or poor, can invest more & smarter to reach all people with strong #PrimaryHealthCare, leaving no one behind. The cost of inaction is simply too great.

#PrimaryHealthCare is one of the most equitable, efficient & effective strategies to achieve universal health coverage & the health-related @GlobalGoals. But too often, it is the most overlooked & under-resourced part of a country’s health system. It is time to walk the talk.

40 years ago, leaders declared #PrimaryHealthCare a moral & strategic investment in #HealthForAll and the future we want. Now more than ever, we know this to be true. The question is: when will leaders follow through? #Astana2018

Today, leaders have the power to take #HealthForAll from rallying cry to reality. Progress depends on political action to strengthen #PrimaryHealthCare on the road universal health coverage, starting with those who need it most. #Astana2018

In 1978, a pivotal conference was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, bringing together health experts and world leaders to commit to health for all. The Declaration of Alma-Ata, endorsed at that conference, formed the foundation for the last 40 years of global primary health care efforts. This October, the world will reunite to reinvigorate and recommit to primary health care. The Global Conference will endorse a new declaration which emphasizes the critical role of primary health care around the world, refocusing efforts to ensure that everyone everywhere is able to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health.
